Ballet promotes physical strength and agility, can boost concentration, develops understanding of music and rhythm, and generates a love of movement.
Kinderballet / Tap

A combination ballet / tap class for kindergarteners, designed to develop the student’s beginning ballet and tap vocabulary and technique.

Ages 5–6 (kindergarten)

Solid pink leotard
Prima teachers prefer leotards without large mesh cutouts in the midriff and/or down the front center.
Light pink or white tights
Pink ballet skirts are allowed, but please ensure the dancer can still see their feet.
Pink ballet shoes
Please ensure ballet shoes have leather, non-slippery bottoms.
Black tap shoes
Please ensure tap shoes do not have laces to tie. Straps, elastic, or Velcro is preferred, as students can change into their tap shoes quicker.
Hair in a bun
Students must have their hair up in a slicked-back ballet bun (or off the face and neck for those with shorter hair).

Primary Ballet / Tap

A combination ballet / tap class for kindergarteners through second graders, covering the same curriculum as Ballet / Tap 1.

A combination ballet / tap class focusing on beginning ballet barre, center floor, and traveling steps and combinations. Students are expected to learn fundamental ballet and tap vocabulary and technique.

Ballet 2–6

Prima offers these continuing levels of classical ballet through Level 6. On average, dancers stay in each level for two to three years with consecutive years of study.

Level 2: Ages 7–8 (2nd grade)
Level 3: Ages 8–11 (3rd grade minimum; placement required)
Level 4: Ages 10–14 (5th grade minimum; placement required)
Level 4P: Ages 11–14 (7th grade minimum; placement required)
This is the year of going on pointe. Specific prerequisites for pointe:
Two years of Level 4 Ballet
Age 12 by August of summer before going on pointe
Teacher invitation given
Required body placement and technique
Takes required summer classes
Level 5: Ages 13–18 (8th grade minimum; placement required)
Level 6: Ages 14–18 (10th grade minimum; placement required)

Pointe 4P–6

Classes for pointe are held at the 4P–6 level. Students will have a pointe class one time per week and then wear their pointe shoes more frequently in their ballet classes when our annual spring production grows closer.

Students who have had 2 consecutive years of Ballet 4 with Prima
Are at least 12 years old by September 1
Have completed the summer pointe evaluation
Have turned in a doctor’s note stating there is no medical reason why the student can’t proceed in pointe
